Well folks, we are a little past at the halfway point of this semester and this course. One thing that is always "funny" to me is that some students don't realize that they are in school until midterm grades come out. They make a vow to change and fix their grades, habits, and outlook on their academic performance. They change their ways for about two weeks, then they slip back into the same habits.
I put quotation marks around "funny" because it really is not funny so much as it is sad. The semester usually ends with them going through the stages of grief when their grades are not what they should be. First, they go through denial - "I didn't see this coming. I came to class, I turned in my work..." Second, they go through anger - "I can't believe YOU gave me this grade...I hate you for this..." Then it goes to bargaining - "Is there anything I can do? I was going through a lot this semester." Then the students get depressed before ultimately they accept their fate.
This blog comes out of the many traditional students (not so much my online students) who don't have a strong sense of why they are in school and why when it comes to their grades they do as Beyonce said years ago and "Check Up On It." Why do you think that students run from their grades all semester, then run to them at the end? In your years of school, is this a trend that you have noticed? Why is it that students think that by bargaining, they will get by when their work is not indicative of it? Is this a culture that we as a society have created?

My first semester of college this is what my mistake was. I didn't want to take responsibility for my work and getting it done so I would just push it off and I quickly realized that, that's not I wanted to play this game and if I did I certainly was not winning. I believe that students run from there grade all semester is because the freedom of college is getting into their heads. The freedom of college can make or break you and you may hear that a lot when your not actually experiencing it but it gets real in college and some people are not ready for it to get real because I definitely wasn't ready. I've noticed that many students that think the same way I was thinking " I have time", " its not that bad". Students feel that bargaining is the best way not to do an assignment or the teacher giving them extra time to do certain assignment they take that professor kindness for a weakness and want to push them over because they feel they got away with it before but that's not always how it works. This is definitely something that our society has created and its getting worse as time goes by because students are feeling that they are entitled to getting certain grades and don't want to work for the grades that they receiving from these professors. Cant blame it all on students because professors need to stand up for themselves as well.
I think some students brush their grades off until the last minute because they don’t realize how serious it is. They think they will be able to bring it up towards the end but the end is really the hardest time to try to strengthen your grade from whatever it was. I say that because the assignments at the end aren’t really much like we barely have anything to do considering the semester is almost over. I do believe it is a trend especially in college because it is procrastination at its finest! We have so much freedom and less restrictions in college than we do at home so nobody is really on our back to tell us to do this or do that. It is mostly why some people keep saying they’ll do it but wait until the same night that it is due, struggling to turn that assignment in by 11:59 PM. Students try to bargain because they don’t want to retake the course. If they retake the course, it is still a possibility that they’ll do the same thing they did the first time which was… nothing. I don’t think that society so much created it because students should know what they have to do to pass a class or maintain their grades. Sometimes it can be as if they want someone to hold their hand during the process. However, high school may have done that but college definitely will not! On the other hand, you do have some teachers and professors that will not help students who they know are struggling. They always say “read the syllabus” or “you should have been in class”. So I think it’s kind of 50/50 because both parties play a role.
I think students run from their grades all semester because at the beginning of the semester everything is going so slow and new things are introduced so as the work builds up they begin to forget because there is other stuff going on. Students like to hang out with their friends and do other things instead of priorities. Once they notice assignments are due they start to stress. But the major thing students do is procrastinate. They procrastinate because they fill like the assignment is easy and it will not take long and it’s not a big grade, so eventually they never do it. Yes, I have noticed this in my years of school. Also when students see their grade is low they feel like that the best way would be to talk to the professor. Students also feel like since a class is considered easy they don’t have to put much effort or time into a particular class as they would for any other class. Sometimes students only try to change there was for a period of time.Yes this is a culture that we as society have created fun before priorities and once priorities are noticed people decide to do better. I feel as if as a college student you come to school for learning but also you can still have fun and be social, but at the same time you should be able to balance time for you studies and social life because this is not like high school you are paying for your learning.
I think that students want to try and slip their way through school. They don’t want to actually work for it and they don’t want to have to put in the effort and time to be a good student. Students always want the easy way out of a class, I am also guilty of this, students want to get through school as easy as possible and end up learning that it’s not going to work out that way in the end. A lot of students feel like they don’t have the time and some just don’t have the patience and learn a valuable lesson in the end. Students beg the instructor to raise their grad and promise they will get better as a student and then do the same things. I think that the students try to beg their way through courses because they are too lazy to do the work and are trying to find the easiest way out of a course. Students like to get through a course as easy as possible and when it doesn’t work out the way they planned they try to find an alternate route which is where the begging comes. They want to make all kinds of excuses and when that doesn’t work they get down because they realize that they should’ve put in more effort. Most students have done this in at least one course and some students try to do it in every course. Either you can handle it and push through or some drop out and do something else with their lives.
It is a shame that this is becoming more common among many students. I feel that there should be a reason behind school and that is to learn. Most people now of days aren’t willing to learn they’re just worried about passing. I think when the beginning of a semester begins most people are automatically worried about passing but as time progresses there is no effort put in. Maybe due to getting distracted by unimportant things or just not putting school on your top priorities. When grades come out it’s a wakeup call for most but a lot of students don’t wake up and want to blame any and everything but themselves. This is a frequent trend that I see among many of my classmates and I feel pity for those because at the end of the day your grades will determine you getting that degree they’ve been “chasing after”. When students realize that it’s the end of the semester and they are doing poor they begin to bargain, when in reality they should have spoken up when their grades first begin to slip. Most students do this to try and make the professor feel pity for them and help them out without putting in any effort. I think it’s becoming more common because some professors are actually letting students get away with this. When other students observe this they think they can do it to and get the same treatment so they think what’s the point of trying when I can just go ask the professor for a passing grade and get it. If you’re a college student you should remember that you’re paying so much money to attend and you should take your studies seriously and learn and put in the effort needed!
I had this problem in my Biology class last semester. I wasn’t doing good in that class at all, and that discouraged me a lot so I developed the “f it” mentality. I also went to class because I personally feel that it is dumb not to go to a class that you aren’t doing well in. My midterm grade wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t where it needed to be. I literally did not get my grade up until the VERY end of the course, I felt blessed but I was still disappointed that I slacked the way I did. I feel that students procrastinate on their grades for most of the semester because they feel like they’ll have time to get their grade up in the end. Coming to college, I realized how fast time flies by. Before you know it, you have about a month left. That’s when it’s the hardest to play catch up because you have old work, new work, and finals. That’s a lot on yourself when you could just keep yourself focus ALL semester. I am doing SOO much better this semester and I must say I am proud of myself. Last semester wasn’t that hard but this semester I have more classes going towards my major which means no games. I feel like this generation sometimes feel that they should be given passes and not have to earn them. We have been so used to being spoon fed, we sometimes forget how to feed ourselves. I personally feel that the more you experience college, you pick up better habits because you have to. College gets harder and that means you have to step your game up and put in that work!
I personally feel like some students become distracted, which causes them to neglect their grades. I know especially as a freshman, it is a lot coming to college. Students no longer have their parents telling them to focus on school, so some students may lose focus when it comes to their classes and grades. They wait to the last minute to look at their grades, because they are so focused on other things. Midterm grades cause the “slackers” to realize where they are, and that their parents would not be happy with their status in school. I have noticed this cycle long before I even came to college. I guess students feel like if they bargain, then it shows that they care. What students fail to realize, is that if you haven’t put in effort throughout the whole course, then in the long run the teacher is less likely to bargain with you. No effort does not deserve a good grade. Society encourages us to be involved on campus and enjoy our college years, but they fail to realize how hard it is finding a balance. Some people focus too much on being involved and enjoying themselves, that they neglect the main reason that they came to college, which is for an education. Society should focus more on encouraging college students to work first and play later. Ultimately, if you are excelling in the classroom, then networking will fall into place. Plus, if you start out strong, then later you will have more time to have fun, rather than bargaining for a good grade with your teacher.
I don’t think students are ever going to stop this habit. Why? Students like to chill and not have to worry about their grades until the end. We like to have fun while in school and not just be straight in the books. Well I’m not going to say we because others might think otherwise, but I doubt it. Also, some students are just scared to check their grades that’s kind of silly because if you check them daily you would already just be on it. I am guilty of doing this though. Well in high school I stopped now. Only did it in high school because high school was cake, as in easy. Anybody can go talk to the teacher at the end of the year and they’ll end giving up giving you a few extra points. I just knew that wasn’t going to work in college so I knew I had to stop. For example, one of my friends had a 79 point something in a class and waited to the last minute to talk to her professor. The professor did not care and still gave her the 79, so I’m so glad I stopped before I got to college. Students also don’t know what to go and say to the professor. We see office hours as in just something the professor just puts up. I don’t know what to go ask at office hours, like you don’t want to go in there looking dumb I guess. It’s just between you and the professor so I guess it’s not that bad, maybe I’ll take it in to consideration.
I think that students choose to run from their grades majority of the semester because they may have not developed fully from the high school environment and habits. In high school, you could procrastinate on assignments and/or miss days and it would not effect your grade as much as it does in college. You could return back to school and seek your teacher to discuss missed assignments and you had the opportunity to complete it right then or after school. In college, you rarely have that opportunity because professors expect students to be more responsible for their assignments being that their education is being paid for. So, I think that what worked throughout high school, students feel that the same would help them prosper in college. I wouldn’t necessarily define it as a “trend” because I think of it as an individual’s decision but then again it could be viewed as such. For example, a student can decide whether or not he or she wants to attend classes or submit their assignments on time. Therefore, that could be viewed more as an individual preference or the way his or her mindset is. I feel like in order for it to be considered as a “trend,” students are more so aware of what they are doing as well as the consequences that comes with it… I feel that students bargain with their professors in regards of their grades because they hope that the professor would show discretion or mainly give them a “slap on the wrist” and pass them. I believe that this issue has become something common to where students fall into the habit of pushing aside their schoolwork and get so caught up in the college environment such as partying knowing you have an assignment that Friday at 11:59. To conclude, I think it’s more of a mindset and actually not wanting to do it that causes a student to procrastinate their grades.
I feel like students run from their grades because they don’t want to face reality and believe that they are doing bad in the class. People don’t care about their grades at the beginning because they believe they will be able to pull it back up towards the end of the semester. Students realize it’s time to buckle down because the end of the semester is coming. Yes, it is trend I have notice, after spring break people tend to say it’s time to go hard and not play around because the semester us coming to an end. I heard people say it before we went on spring break last week. Even in high school students tend to still wait to the end of the semester to try and get all their work down and make good grades. I have done that a couple of times in a few my classes, I waited to the end to try and do all my work to make a comeback on my grade. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. It all depends on the class and who your teacher is. Some teachers will give you multiple opportunities to bring your grade up and some teachers won’t care and leave you out to dry. I think it is a culture society has created, a culture where it’s okay to wait to the last minute to try and complete all your work. I don’t think it’s a positive culture society has created but it all comes down to laziness.
I do not feel that all students are running from their grades. Some students do have apathy about school or. Do not take school seriously either because of immaturity or they were made to persue an education and this is not their personal route but some just are overwhelmed with more than one responsibility and must find a balance between their studies and personal life. School in itself is stressful as different teachers apply different demands and the schedule and workload can be cumbersome. Its important to keep your teacher informed even though eventually if you are overwhelmed more than likely the professor will be also but if you do not keep a level of communication then in the end then the professor will say they were not aware. Despite it all, examining yourself and correcting weaknesses by setting alarms, purchasing a calendar or scheduling time in for studies is a mature way of taking care of barriers shown during midterms. I myself have an unsual amount of work and responsibility upon me this semester and I am finding a balance. Regardless schooling is training and training is meant to show you what you must improve at or where your strengths are. Professors themselves were students themselves so they would know that earning an education is not easy if it were everyone would have one. In addition, every generation has the same barriers in education so its not attributed to this or any culture society. To say that people are lazy based on their grade is not indicative as many people have great grades and cheat and bad grades and work hard. What it does indicate is an emotional reason as college students pay to come and want to earn a degree. It all just comes down to balance. Once that is achieved regardless of the outcome you can live with it if you gave it your all!
Why do you think that students run from their grades all semester, then run to them at the end? I think most students run from their grades all semester is because they might think they have time to worry about their grades later than right then. I know personally I don’t like to look at my grades to much during the semester because that will begin to start to stress me out a lot. When that starts to happen it’s all downhill from there. Stress can cause a lot of extra problems that aren’t needed. In your years of school, is this a trend that you have noticed? Yes, most definitely is a trend I have noticed all the way up from middle school. It sad that you can see something like this even in middle, but I think that a whole another problem that will be dealt with later. Now in high school it is another story, some students just might not care then all of sudden after their parents talk to them they want to starting worrying about their grades. They probably think the teacher will have some mercy on them and allow them to make up their work or turn in assignments late. Some teachers try to help them but they can only do so much when it comes to fixing or helping with grades. No this not the society we have created, I think it just depends on the students. If the students want the grades they want , they will have to work for them.
I feel like this whole year was all my fault, with my grades and etc. During high school I never studied and still graduated with a 3.7, since I been in college I haven't been able to be on my ish like I'm supposed to I'm still trying to do what I did in high school which I need to stop. Since I really found what I really want to major in I have gotten such a relief and know I need to get my stuff together. But I been knew that lol. But some students do brush things off, which I know I do too. But realized that's not the best choice to do. But I have prayed about it and made better choices. But the end of the semester is no time to get your stuff together, because there's no time left. I can at least say I try to do the best in the assignments I turn in, some students do not care about how their assignments sound or look. Some people really actually don't care. But after they fail their first class they normal try to get their stuff together but sometimes it's two or three. I feel as a society we have created this because on social media we even start posting after midterms we're going to be in class on time till end of the year and start slipping up again after a couple of weeks even days.
I don’t think many students actually think about their grades until a big grade comes out. From personal experience, I know that I do not think about my grades until midterms come out because mainly I do well in my classes it is just when midterm grades come out I choose to do better than I have been doing. Also, in college there is a lot of freedom so it’s not like you’re at home and you constantly have someone on you about doing your work. You must know to do your work on your own. First year students are the worse because we are the least focused students and we haven’t learned that you should start off like you want to finish. Many times, when the grades come out that’s when students begin to humble themselves and relieve they must focus more. For one thing, many teachers do not update students grades consistently either through blackboard or through a form of progress reports. Majority students don’t get stressed until they realize their grades have dropped, assignments pile up, or when they find out it is nothing they can do to bring up their grades. Lots of students slipped their way through school all these years and they expect college to be the same but it’s nowhere near the same.
I feel like students usually do not focus on their grades during the beginning of the semester because they feel like they have time to bring their grades up to what they want. Some students tend to be lazy and blow off assignments or not doing well in them, thinking that “it is just the beginning, i’ve got time.” Once those students realize the time slipping away from them and it is beginning to become the end of the semester, they begin to panic and start trying to bring their grade up immediately. The then start to realize that the year is coming to an end and they cannot receive that bad grade. I have noticed that this is becoming a trend in our generation today, but each individual has a reason why they did it. Students cannot just pass a class by showing up, you have to put in it the work to receive the grade that is deserved. Coming to class is just a small percentage in a grade, depending on one’s instructor. I also feel like we have created a culture throughout our society because these students are beginning to make something of them that they are not. Yes, we all know that no one wants to do work, but in order to get where we wanna be in life we have to strive for our best chances in success. Me as a freshman here at WSSU, i chose to not wait till the end of the year to bring my grade up instead, i chose to get my grades up as high as i could possibly get during the beginning of the year so that if something was to happen with my grades it wouldn’t be as bad. I know i have people that are still doubting me in the world and i have to prove to them i can be my best when it comes to success.
When it comes to paying no mind to a grade until it is too late, I believe the main issue is procrastination. The reason I said the main reason is because some time people do have things going on in their lives that keep them from being as focused as they should be. I know from experience that when something is really bothering you tend to pay barely any attention to your grades and they might start to go down without you even knowing. What makes this type of situation worse is the fact that when someone comes to talk to their professor about their current situation, the professor most likely will not believe them because so many people lie about situations about things like that. Most professors feel that majority of their students do not get their work done or fall behind because of laziness and procrastination. Every person has their lazy moments which might lead to them procrastinating a little bit once and a while but some people make it a habit to do it too much. I know there have been times where I have an assignment that is due but I’ll look at the clock and say that I have time and I’ll go do something else. Something would either jog my memory about the assignment or I would completely forget about it. For some classes, the professor sometimes will give a student a break and give them some more points but then it’s the type of professor that will say they gave you plenty of chances to get your grade up so they can’t help you. This issue will never end because the students are in college, which is usually really their first true piece of freedom and independence, and something is bound to take their attention off work.
I believe hen students grades start to slip they convince themselves in the begging that they have more time. Then many tend to lose track of time while they never brought their grades back up. Finally they receive midterm reports and are shocked when they see they are not doing well. This most likely motivates them to get them up however it’s easy to fall into old habits. I personally have done this several times and regret it. Making this mistake has made me realize that it is better to be proactive than reactive. This way you don’t have to try and finesse and get your grades up from last tests and finals. Although I have managed to do this stuff before I don’t recommend it. This is because there nothing better than ending a year or semester off with easily obtain the grades I can be proud of. This cycle should be stopped in students. It’s negative because grades tend to cause students stress and even anxiety. I don’t approve of this because I know how hard it is to pull up a grade and even worse multiple grades when time and your current grade isn’t in your favor. I believe that if you want to really make an effort to bring your grade back up then you should place certain things in your life that will reinforce this goal. This includes making personal connections with your teacher and tutors, setting alarms for your these tutoring sessions as well as joining things like study groups and writing them in calenders.
I think that most students have too much freedom and push their work back. Then keep procrastinating until the time its due. Which ends up with them getting a bad grade or them not turning it in at all because they couldn’t understand it the night before. Then some students try to slide through a class doing the bare minimum if they can. Once they see the professor isn’t giving any slack. They try to pick up there slack. Most of the time the students realize the teacher doesn’t take anything, when the grades are about to become final. But then it’s a little too late. In college when you don’t have someone over you 24/7 telling you to turn something in or their parents telling them to the homework the teacher. I think that the students that run from their grades had someone at the home to keep them in their books. Then students might run from their grades because this isn’t the place they want to be, they were forced to come to school. Yea through my years of school I have noticed that a lot of students seem like they could care less about all the school work during the year. I think that they use begging to try to get the teacher to feel some kind of sympathy for them. Then if they are a good at convincing people most likely it’ll work. So it’s a part of the culture now, because so many times the students have used it. So in the back of their head they think” I’m just going to wait and find a lie to come up with”. Then most of the time the lie is good then they’ll be able to turn the late work in.
Me being a student I can relate to this situation because I’ve caught myself doing this several times not just in college but probably sense 8th grade all the way through high school. I don’t mean to do it, it’s just about focus and being able to manage time. I do throw some things to the side and I feel that I do that because I work a lot better under pressure just because I know I must get the work done and it’s a big grade or not just a big grade a grade period. When I do, this I try not to keep to doing it but I do find myself getting back on the wrong track but I correct myself and get myself back on track only because I know if I get to far off track it’ll be hard to get back on. Being a college student it isn’t good to wait to last minute to fix things because being a college student or being a student period there are thing that come up and you’re going to want to them like parties, sporting events, going out with friends, etc. so in order to do your “wants” it’s good to stay on top of your( work-needs) and if you can get ahead do so cause there might be something that pops up and you have work to do so you can’t go so basically it’s all about time management and putting your needs over wants. So, I think it’s all on how you taught yourself coming up through school how to stay focus and getting things done right away and if you have or haven’t you’ll most likely carry that on the whole way through being a student. So, me being me I’ve fix my problem of doing things last minute a little bit, but not all the way but I’m getting there but I sit there and tell myself I can’t do that a get things straight
In my years of school, I tend to see this trend of going in wanting to have a great start then later on slacking off. As soon as a the first break comes up, like winter break, I tell myself when I get back I have to get back to the same mentality I had when I first started but then the pattern continues. Honestly, there is no true, valid excuse to why I or other people do this. My father always told me to start strong, finish strong and if I was to stay on top of my school work I wouldn’t be doing last minute things or worrying about what I have to do. The real answer to this pattern is laziness. People, like myself, get caught up worrying about other things and forget about the more important task. I don’t think society has much to do with this situation, I believe it’s all on who the person is. In grade school, I feel like it was easier to bargain with the teachers because they HAD to care about what students made in their class or they could possible lose their job. It’s all about how you look as an individual. Teachers in college care but they don’t care. Once in college it’s hard to bargain because you’re paying for your education here but in grade school you weren’t. Professors get paid regardless of what you make. I’m sure if some teachers heard what was going on about why you are slacking in their class they would care, if you told them ahead of time instead of saying something at the last minute. Saying something last minute will probably make them thing you are trying to pull something funny on them.
I do think students run from their grades only when they are not good. They also try to make a professor feel pity for them when their grade is bad, but when they don’t they always try to blame the professor. I’m guilty of running away from my grades. When I’m not doing well in class I develop this nonchalant attitude towards the class and just give up, especially if I feel like there’s no chance of me bringing the grade up. Students in college have no supervision and a lot of freedom, so they use their freedom in many ways and that can hinder them from doing what they’re here for. A lot of students put parties, friends and events before a class and homework and that’s how you fail. Some students feel as if their still in high school and that they still can do nothing and still pass and have good grades which is so untrue. College is such a different ballgame than high school and to be honest I’m still adjusting to it. A lot of students do wait last minute to try to get their grades up, but trying to get your grade up in the end is always the hardest because there may be a lot of work that a student might have to do to get their grade up again. There’s plenty of resources that’s available to a student, especially in college that can be done so you can have an opportunity to bring a failing grade up.
I personally feel as if students run from their grades all semester because they feel as if they can wait until the end of the semester and expect their professors to feel sympathetic due to some story they will tell. Students aren’t taking education as serious as it is. They seem to wait for extra credit to be given to try to hurry and pull their grades of. A lot of students are so stuck on being popular, involved, partying working, and other things that will cause them to be distracted from what actually matters which is education. Being on your own is a huge responsibility that some people cannot handle. For example, a lot of the students especially freshman, rather party, drink, and even smoke than complete their work when the schoolwork should be the number one priority. As far as students waiting until the last minute to take their schoolwork serious, I strongly believe it is a culture that we as society has created. I say this because we as students are so used to teachers “looking out” for us because they do not want to see us fail. I do not have a problem with that honestly because sometimes that extra credit is exactly what you need to solidify that A (100%) that you wanted to earn for the course. The teachers that we have had growing up and even some of the ones we have now definitely give in to feeling sorry for us or giving us the easy way out when it comes to academics.
The terminology I use for this habit is simple. The word is “procrastination”. Waiting to the last minute to do an assignment or waiting to the last minute to study for a big exam. Both are examples of procrastination. The sad thing is that the person is mad at their grade that they have gotten even though they KNOW they waited to the last minute. It’s crazy really. But I’m not here to be a hypocrite because I am also guilty of procrastinating sometimes. It is a nasty habit that I have been trying to break. I don’t do it all the time but sometimes I do it on accident because I forgot all about the assignment I am supposed to complete. But saying “I forgot” or “I didn’t know” isn’t going to fly with any teacher. So, I know that if I do bad on that assignment or on that exam or whatever it might be. At the end of the day I know that it was ultimately my fault because I procrastinated. This tendency for people needs to stop because trying to beg/ bargain with your teachers is not acceptable. You should be able to own up to your responsibilities as a student and make sure that you get you work done at a timely manner. I being also someone that is guilty of this shall try to in other words “Practice what I preach” and put a complete end to procrastinating altogether. DO YOU THINK YOU’RE READY?
I would not say that all individuals run from their grades because some handle their time management very well. But those that do run from their grades is because our generation today has the worst habits of procrastinating when it comes to turning in assignments and actually doing it. We become very distracted when the assignments are giving that we may forget when and what to do until maybe a day or hour before its due. My years in school, procrastinating has become a trend within our generation, that will most likely be passed down to other generations. For example, I have procrastinated many of times like instead of doing my assignment right away, I will go to the mall with my friends and say I will finish it when I get back to campus but by the time I get back, I forget all about it and have to turn it in late because I did not take care of my responsibilities as a student. Every person has their lazy moments but you can’t make it a habit to where you have to receive bad grades because you were lazy. To me it is a self taught thing, if you teach yourself to do work right away after you get the assignment. These issues are becoming more noticeable every day by society. It is becoming a culture and bad habit that is bring our society down as a whole.
I would agree with your blog %110. I have seen this trend so often, that sometimes it seems to be the norm for most students. Especially in my generation. I would also have to agree that it is pretty sad, that students feel that they can half do things, and slack off on their work the majority of the semester. Then right before the closing of the semester they want to know how and why and if there are any extra credit assignments. In my opinion, some teachers and professors do a great job at not allowing students who slacked off during the semester to make up what they have missed. I feel it is unfair to those who have worked hard and showed their dedication the entire time. It is pretty much so a slap in the face to those students. Of course, things happen, and you may make a mistake here and there, but there is a line that should and must be drawn at some point. I am not sure why students run from their grades during the semester, it sets them up for failure in the long run. Why not face the problem in the beginning so there is room and time for adjustments? In my generation, this trend has been huge. I have seen students who have done it and I have also heard teachers speak of those who do it. It really is not a good luck for the individual. It says a lot about you as a person, as well as, your work ethic. It is also show a sense of disrespect to teachers in a way. I am personally not one of those students. I have always been one who is aware of my grades and what I am doing in school. I would have to say that we as a culture have created this trend. Especially in my generation. Some of us seem to think that we are owed a pass for things that we slack off on and it should not be that way.
Starting my first semester of college, I made the same mistake with putting off my school work. I think students in college push off their grades because of the amount of freedom you have while at school. IN the beginning of the school year I think most students are focused on passing. As the year goes along many student switch up their priorities and start putting school second. Procrastination is very easy to do whenever you have a due date that is weeks from today. I founded it easier to just due the assignment days before its due. With doing this you have time to make sure the assignment is fully correct and not a last-minute thing. I see the middle of the semester as I refocus point for students. Whenever midterms come out it shows the student what kind of position they’re in that class. Many students get the idea of they can pull their grade up before the very end of the semester. This trends in a lot in school because students have nobody to remind and guide them on assignments as in high school. In college, it is very important that you take the responsibility of being on your own in a way that is going to help you be successful in school. If you do a bad on a test or major assignment more than once, it is easy to develop a careless mentality about that certain class. To avoid these actions educational resources are all over campus, but it’s up to the student themselves to use them in their favor.
