Unnecessary Technologies...

It has been said that as soon as a consumer purchases a piece of technology, it becomes obsolete.  I have seen this happen with computers, televisions, and most of you know that as soon as a new cell phone hits the market, developers are working on another one.  In past blogs, we have discussed what pieces of technology we would like to see developed, what technologies that we would not want to see replace humans, and we have talked about some of the evils of technology in the forms of social media.  As technology progresses, there are new advances that surface daily/weekly/monthly.  But there are some advances that I think are completely unnecessary and solely function as a way for someone to put their name on “the next big thing.”
One of these unnecessary technologies is the smart watch.  I recently purchased one just to see what the “hype” is all about.  For those of you who do not know, smart watches were developed a few years ago and they serve the purpose to be more convenient for consumers.  Instead of having to pick up your phone when a call or a text comes through, you can answer the call or reply to the text through the watch.  You can also make calls through the watch.  I would like this technology except for one thing…you still have to have your phone with you or in close vicinity in order for the watch to work.  Why would I buy a watch that can do everything my phone does, but I still have to have my phone with me?  I think that is basically useless, but I may be converted once I receive it and begin to use it.
What technologies do you think are unnecessary?  The technologies you choose can be either hardware (something external) or software (something internal).  Why do you think these technologies are unnecessary?  Is there something else that exists that is better?  If the technology is unnecessary in its current state, how can it be improved?

  1. Some technologies I think are unnecessary are: T. V’s, the IPhone, and a pager. T. V’s are unnecessary because we have apps on our phones and laptops that allow us to watch shows and movies, even if they just came out. The IPhone are unnecessary because they never have service, something is always wrong with them, and they never have storage. A pager is unnecessary because we now have cell phones. The T. V’s can become portable like our laptops and phones. The IPhone just need to improve its quality, especially because their prices are extremely high. The apps need to be improved as well, I set my alarm clock from my phone and sometimes it doesn’t even go off, luckily my body wakes me up. Pagers are unnecessary because, I am not even sure what a pager does, but I think it tells you when you receive a message or call, at least that’s what I saw in a movie. Phones already have their own notifications so a pager is unnecessary, unless the improve it and make it like an apple watch or something. Laptops are better than the T. V’s, the apple watch is better than the pager and face to face communication is better than any phone. In all honesty, technology itself is unnecessary and harmful, yet we rely on it the most. The radiation from the screens on our phones are not healthy for daily living. The mind of each generation is suffering because technology is so heavily influenced. Little kids are getting cell phones and laptops at the age of two or one. It’s crazy !

From being away from home I realized that tvs have become useless. With my cable company I downloaded the app on my phone and I can go to the website on laptop. For the people who still use television for entertainment purposes, I would say smart tvs are useless. The more recent technology coming out needs something else to function. The smart tv allows you to go on the internet, Youtube, and Netflix. You need wifi in order to do this. Our generation buy these “smarter” products, but have to buy outside products just so this “smart” product can run to it’s full potential. For example the iphone 7. With my phone plan I can get the newest iphone anytime it comes out. I switched from my 6s to the iphone 7 for the fun of it and I was kinda upset. They took away the headphone jack, so you charge your phone and listen to music in the same port. You cannot however do them both at the same time. I believe the point of that was very useless because now I had to go buy an outside adapter piece just so that I can still charge my phone and listen to music at the same time. For the older generations, I think pagers were useless. What is the point of someone paging you to call them when they can just simply call you. The way our generation is looking now for the next years, I believe all the technology is becoming unnecessary. It is taking over and making us lazy. When I was a little girl like 4-6 my mother would make me read educational books to learn. My niece is the same age and all she wants to is just watch dance videos on her tablet all day. As a people we have to change this.

As a woman of a certain age who has children that uses the lates technology i have had the opportunity to see the evolution of technology in a three generational span. As mentioned bfore i can see how the t.v. is becoming obsolete due to streaming but if we look at things logically we can see how some advancements in technology just has not been made available to use. For example with regards to gas it should have already been made obsolete due to advancements in the way recycling has changed and genetically modified foods have shown us other ways of consumption is possible. There are battery charged cars but they are relatively few charging stations and are extremely expensive and are not functionally ideal as of yet. I do believe the technology has been made already though and the availability of technology just has not been released to the public for political reasons but replacing crude oil has alot of benefits as it causes cancer and disease malformations, ozone damage, wars and fueds the devision that exists due to the entity who controls the oil controls the rest making its evolution political. I think it is necessary for the government to release this technology to the public despite politics. Medical technology has advanced recently. Spinach leaves were discovered last month as being able to grow into heart tissue in a lab. This implicates that the evolution of surgical technology will change and the way it is performed being rather than an opperating room a person will simply wait on the malfunctioning body part to be grown in a lab! This is both exciting and scary to me but hopefully i will see its evolution in my lifetime!

I think technologie has its time and serves it purpose for only so long, for example having a t.v is very unnecessary now . The reason why I say that because all of the cable company offer t.v services on your phone, tablet or laptop. Three devices that we use on a daily more than cutting on the t.v. You don't have to be limited anymore if you had basic cable or wait and watch through commercials because most of the shows on your mobile device don't have commercials but might have a thirty second ad between different shows in the series. Also there are different ways to catch your favorite show other than waiting to catch them or having to record them all the time. Applications like Netflix and Hulu allow you to watch tv series and movie for a small monthly membership rate. Also have apps for your favorite t.v stations and live sports or reward updates. The newest way people been watching t.v. is the amazon fire stick, it's a stick that you plug up to the back of your tv to play games, surf the internet, watch television shows and all the newest movies that came out in the movie theaters. It's slowly taking away the attendance of the movie theater because people watch movies for free in the comfort of their homes. T.V. companies are trying to stay relevant by making “Smart T.V.” , a cross of a t.v and laptop but people don't care to buy them because of the price and also they don't see the need in them because they already have a laptop.

I personally feel that the apple watch can be one of the most unnecessary pieces of technology out right now. I sometimes feel the need to have one only because they slight reasons for being considered useful. But then again, nobody wants to spend all that money on an Apple product and must have your OTHER Apple product on hand. My mother’s boyfriend has a similar product to the Apple watch, you can call a knock off. He mentioned to me that it can do the same thing that the apple watch can do and he doesn’t see the purpose for it. I think that technology that has several models of it has its pros and cons. It can be a pro because the company will make great profits if the technological piece is better than the others and it’s made by a very popular brand (aka Apple). It can be a con because since there are other products like this one, it could possibly not make as much money as anticipated, and people can feel cheated out of their money. I feel that if a product isn’t selling, there can always be room for improvement or you can change the meaning behind the piece. Like some watches can be connected to your phone, but they don’t have to have your phone near you. It could simply be to just to count your steps, or to keep up with the number of calories you’ve burned in that day. I think technologies need to be a little more original.

Some technologies that I consider to be unnecessary are TV’s, iPhone finger print, and iPads. TV has become unnecessary to me overtime. Before I came to college, I use to watch it every day for long periods of time. Now that I am in college, I barely turn it on. If I need to watch something I do it off my phone or laptop. If I miss an episode or season of something, I just go online to Hulu, 353, or Netflix. I feel like Netflix, Amazon Fire sticks, and other online websites have replaced TV because you can still watch shows and movies using them. These are also things that exist that are better than the TV. Second, the iPhone finger print. With the finger print it is “supposed” to make unlocking your phone easier. However, it does the complete opposite. It does not work all the time because if it can’t read your finger print it’s going to tell you to enter your password. If that’s the case then what’s the purpose of having the finger print, if I’m going to type in my password anyway? It can be improved by fixing the finger print detection. Lastly, iPads are the exact same thing as iPhones just bigger. It is unnecessary because everything it does is the same as the phone such as facetime, iMessage, safari, etc. So why purchase something that you already have? I feel like it should have different features that the phone does not already have. Apple creates the most unnecessary stuff.

Honestly in today's time in 2017 there are a lot of useless technology. Starting with television with how everything works in today's society anything that comes on television can be watched on your phone or live streamed on your laptop. Perfect example the national title game between Gonzaga and UNC-Chapel Hill I don't even have to watch it on my television I can pull it up and watch it on my phone if I rally want to or watch it on my laptop. I also feel like apple watches are pretty useless, the only thing there good for is getting you caught up in your relationships and your basically just having two phones at once for no reason. Movie theaters are getting played out as in rolling cameras or movie theaters cameras because you now have devices that play movies as soon as they come out now. Also you have devices were you no longer have to pay for cable. perfect example would be an Amazon fire stick. But in reality all technology has an expiration date until something better comes out or a better version of it comes out. All technology evolves and only gets better and better from there on out. Also there is so many different ways to get on the internet now you don't even need a computer anymore. You can use fire stick or your own personal game system now as in ps4's and xbox one's. Also you can get on with your phones now.

The one technology that I think is obsolete is the DVD. I see no point in owning DVDs or therefore purchasing a DVD anymore. We live in a world of fire sticks, Netflix, Hulu, etc. these new websites and technologies make it possible to watch any movie or TV show you want at the touch of a button. I grew up with DVDs. I think that there are literally hundreds of DVDs at my house. They take up a lot of space and I feel that a lot of people would agree with me on that. But when these new forms of watching TV shows and movies came out I noticed something. In my household, we stopped buying DVDs as much. This was because there was no need to buy the DVD of a movie that we had already seen and could watch again at any time we wanted. This the reason why DVDs are so obsolete in this day and age of technology. I feel that soon that everything we be online and that there will not be the option of buying a DVD or it will be that DVDs will become and have the audience/consumers that people that buy vinyl’s have. Only people that really want DVDs and cannot move on with the current technology will have DVDs. That time might be closer than we think. I don’t think that the change will affect me very much because I rarely watch things on DVDs anyway. This is what I feel is a useless technology.

The technology that I think is obsolete is the Apple watch and the new touch MK watch. I heard the MK watch only worked for Android users anyway. The apple watch of course only works for iPhone users. If they gone create some updated ass watch then you shouldn’t have to have the phone on you in that case. Like if somebody call you, the watch and your phone ringing at the same time that’s basically having 2 of the same phones. That’s so dumb and pointless why spend $300 on a watch that does the same thing as your phone? When you can get a cheap $20 watch that just lets you know the time, I believe that’s what watches are for. The people who are making these fancy watches are really doing too much if you ask me. I see why people say TV’s are unnecessary, but me personally I’m not in to watching all those TV series on Netflix and what not. If I turn on Netflix I’m either bored or “Netflix and chilling.” The TV is just fine to me. If I’m watching TV, its either Love and Hip Hop ATL or Power. If I miss it oh well like I see everybody keep saying if you miss an episode you can go get on your laptop. NO I DON’T! That show gone come on again later or the next day like it’s never that serious. Don’t get me wrong though I do love my phone, it keeps me updated with news and what not, but I’m not searching on my phone what’s the news today. Social media is just providing it for me, I’m not asking for it.

  10. I think that Tv’s, laptops/iPad, and cellphones are unnecessary technologies because in today’s society they are all compatible of the same thing. On smart tv’s you are able to use the internet, listen to music, and etc. Laptops and iPads are like a smaller on go version of a Tv but more compatible of things and a better size. Cell phones are overrated due to the fact that everything is related to what was seen on the internet. People rely so much on technology that they would not know what to do if it were unavailable. Also these technologies will become useless because there will always be something that comes out that will be more efficient than a previous technology item. Different types of technology serves a different purpose. So, I don’t believe all technology is considered bad. History is change over time so, by technologies become useless is due to a more efficient piece becoming available to make something become easier. For an example we use to use a compass to navigate now we have gps which allows us to see different routes and etc. Technology plays a huge role on younger generations life which allows them not to focus on what really matters. Another useless technology is a Cd because now people do not own stereos, or cd players. Also in today’s cars you can use a aux cord which allows you to play music from your phone by adapting a jack into the headphone area or people have Bluetooth installed into there cars.

I feel as if iPods, iPads, and MP3 players are unnecessary. iPods and MP3 players are designed to listen to your music. Now we can simply use our phones to carry out this task. Everything that you can do on an iPod and iPad is accessible on your cellular device now. It’s more convenient to have your phone now, because for the most part, you don’t have to always have Wi-fi to access everything. With both an iPod and iPad, the internet is not accessible when you are not on wi-fi. It’s pretty lame to have to ask for someone’s wi-fi password everywhere you go whenever you want to use either of these devices on the internet. Smartphones allow you to do all of the things these three devices are made to do. In my opinion, iPods, iPads, and MP3 players lack room for improvements. If any improvements are done to these devices, they will start mimicking phones. This is taking away from their purpose. If I had to offer one beneficial improvement, it would be to make them internet accessible, or “4G”. This would potentially increase the use of these products. Also, as far as MP3 players, they should upgrade more technically. I remember used to have to connect my MP3 player to my computer and take the songs from YouTube. That is way too much hassle that people today are less likely to deal with. Downloading songs should be as fingertip accessible. We should be able to type in a song on the MP3 and press download. It would be so much simpler.

There are many different technologies that have become obsolete. The tv, apple watch, DVD’s and IPhone fingerprinting. I think that certain technologies serve a purpose for a certain amount of time and then someone creates something that is better or more advanced. I believe the tv is becoming obsolete because now many people use their laptops or IPad to watch tv. Some tv’s are becoming extremely expensive and people will use their laptops and IPad to watch tv since they can’t afford a tv. Another reason the tv is becoming obsolete is because cable companies and other apps are now allowing their customers to watch what they want on the laptop or IPad. Watching movies and video on a laptop and IPad is a lot more convenient for those who travel. People are now able to watch what they want as they travel around the world. Another technology that is extremely obsolete is DVD’s. this is because with the advancement of technologies many people have apps such as Netflix, Crackle, Hulu, Firestick, and other movies boxes to watch movies and videos. Plus, with DVD’s they take a long time to process instead of downloading an app and paying a few dollars a month to watch whatever one wants to watch. Lastly, I absolutely think the fingerprint on IPhone serve no purpose. The IPhone fingerprint is to make it easier and faster for people to unlock their phones, but that is nearly impossible. The fingerprint is always glitching, not working properly, and sometimes takes more than one try to unlock the phone. It is better off putting in the code because your brain has already processed where the numbers are, so many people can unlock the phone without looking and it is sometimes faster than the fingerprint. Also, when you reset your phone or it dies and you turn it on, you can only put in the code and not the fingerprint.

  13. Ever since I was little I've always wanted technology around because I thought it was the best thing that was every created. I got my first phone around 8th middle school and that really took my to another level I wanted everything, I've had so many different game systems and phones since then its ridiculous. When I got to high school and started working, my phone bill was put in my name and I had to pay it. That changed my perspective on electronics because those times that my phone was off and I had nothing I learned to cope with what I had and that was they television and if I wasn't around a TV I was behind a computer screen. College was an eye opener because when I got here I didn't bring my TV with me so I was never in the room enough to watch TV. TVs became very pointless to me and soon realized I didn't need a TV every night to fall asleep. My cell phone broke while I was in college and I didn't have any way to communicate with people, soon realized phones were not that important to make a day because I could socialize with my friends and be actually enjoy life. I haven't played a gaming systems since I've been in college, that became very pointless in my life and I could live without them. Some pointless electronics are gaming systems, phones, and televisions because you don't need these things to communicate with other or entertain yourself. These technologies take up too much time and you pay a lot of money for them to get nothing in return for your money. These technologies are very high in demand so they are always improving them so the improvement don't change anything it just makes things worse.

Now that i am in college, i feel like the most unnecessary form of technology is the television. Tv’s are now very useless because we all have smartphones now that can access shows and movies, even the most recent ones. When i am sitting in my room and i decide to watch my favorite show or movie i never watch it on my tv, it always seems to be viewed on my phone. I feel as if i bought a tv for no reason, a waste of money because i never use it. Even back at home, i would always use my phone to watch everything, a tv was always pointless to me when smartphones came around. My family members also do the same thing, everyone except my grandmother and grandfather. Others sits around on their phones watching shows, movies, and videos instead of using the tv for its purpose. This technology may have been useful back then because we were not released to smartphones, but now that we have they what’s the point? This technology can be improved by just making a bigger ipad to use and make look like a tv. It can be used for family rooms and others if requested. That way if others still wanna watch tv together, such as viewing a football game, they can still just get together and watch it like normal. That way if older aged people still want to view a “tv” they can, just in a different type of form. Our generation is mostly viewed on technology, so why not make something for the better of society.

The first thing I would say is the Apple Bluetooth ear buds, like why not just by regular headphones or Bluetooth headphones. It is very obvious that they will be very easy to lose and they will cost a lot of money by themselves. Another one is when they remake a game that’s already out with very little new things added to it. The wi and wi U is one of them it’s the same game console just a different name. For one they are just a waste of money that could be spent towards somethings else. Because all that’s different is look the console looks or the graphics. But now days the graphics do look better and better each year. However, Microsoft has lowered their prices for the Xbox one S compared to the original Xbox one. Yes, there are rumors that there is something better than what is out now on the market. But it is like that every year though that’s nothing new to me. Now when it comes to the actually games, there’s always going to be something better or new. For an example the Call of duty series it been out for many years they still make millions off of their games, which are quite the same each year. They would have to just come up with a interesting new designs and betters games for the buyers to play and keep it up.

There are many new technologies that I have seen that seem completely useless. This is because I have seen many people trying to profit off of similar but slightly different imitations of a popular product. This was seen with Lyft becoming popular after Uber even though it’s a different software they provide the same service. They just saw it was a beneficial service basically monopolizing the app serviced transportation and made successful competition. This is also seen in smart watches for apple and android seeing that it was a popular new development more companies had to create their own imitation even though it does all the same stuff a phone does people still carry both not needing one making the watch ultimately useless. Another pointless new technology is a tablet these do essentially the same as computers and smartphones. Most people purchase both of the other two so what’s the purpose of the tablet in the first place. It may be lighter and touch screen however they tend to support slower typing and usually don’t have the processer that most laptops possess. Smart TV’s are just as pointless because they are just TV’s with internet meanwhile people already have smart phones, tablets, and computers. Also people have the capability to connect game systems, computers, and phones to their TV’s making the need for internet on their TV useless. I believe that most of the products created these days are just to make profit and not for actually elevating technology that makes life easier.

Some technologies I consider to be unnecessary is a TV, I barely watch TV anymore. You don’t have to have a TV in order to watch major sporting events all you need is a smart phone, tablet, or a laptop. If you want to watch your favorite TV shows or series all you have to do is download the Netflix app. I feel like over time TV’s will slowly disappear. The only time I use a TV is to watch a major sporting event or to play my game. To be honest you don’t even have to have a TV for major sporting events because they show the games on mobile apps. Another piece of unnecessary technology is the Nintendo Wii, nobody plays that game system anymore and the graphics are horrible. Another piece of technology that’s nobody uses anymore is a DVD, I think those went extinct a long time ago. The reason why they went extinct is because of Netflix, Hulu, Fire stick, and free movie websites. Another obsolete technology is Myspace, Myspace was popping early to 2000’s but once Facebook was created Myspace went downhill from there. I don’t think Facebook will die out because older people use Facebook to connect with their old friends from school. Also, think twitter will be around for a long time because that’s a new generations Facebook, that’s how the new generation connects with each other. The fingerprint is also an unnecessary piece of technology because I always have problems trying to unlock my phone with it.

  19. While staying on campus at college, I realized that cable can be considered a useless piece of technology. With being busy with other activities during the day, I don’t have enough time set aside to watch my favorite shows on TV. Instead of watching my favorite shows on TV, I’ll pull up whatever show that I want to watch on my iPhone instead of having to be in my room to watch it. Another piece of technology that can be considered useless are “house phones”. House phones only allow you to call from your home phone and check voicemails. Many people only have cell phones because they allow you to call from around the world. Cell phone also allow you to send text messages around the world. A Bluetooth earphone is a useless piece of technology as well. To use the Bluetooth headset, you must be in the device its connected to range or it won’t work. That’s just like using my wired earphones that connect to my device. The Xbox 360 which was once the bestselling game on the market, is now considered to be useless because of the new Xbox one. Once a new version of a game system comes out, the demand of the old game system goes down immediately. To keep customers buying the new game system, every year the company makes sure they have just enough new features and better quality than the last system did. As technology advances older inventions of technology will become useless overtime.

I sat in front of my laptop for a while just trying to think about technologies that are unnecessary; I could barely think of any. I went around asking friends what technology they thought were useless and they said things like CDs and the VCR. In my opinion, I couldn’t use those because they both were necessary during a different time period and are still used by some people today. I looked up some stuff on the internet but most of the stuff I found were, in my opinion, not appropriate to talk about in this blog. I thought back to when you were talking about the iwatch and I just thought about how the people who use it were lazy. The word lazy made me think about two other technologies that I feel are unnecessary; A Segway and Hoverboards. I feel that both the Segway and the hoverboard are fun to use but are in no way necessary. Instead of just going on a walk, people now a day just get on their hoverboard or Segway and go cruising around the block. People might not really think about it but walking is one of the main parts of their daily cardio and using these technologies are just making people lazy. I actually feel that almost any technology that is used to prevent having to do much physical activity is unnecessary. The more technology that the world created like this will just make more issues. Some of the issues I feel are an effect of using some of these technologies are people being overweight, getting into accidents and the decline in school grade averages.

In my opinion iPod are one of the outdated technologies in this era. Granted when it came out it was all the rave. It was new, it was top notch technology. However now a days due to smart phones being so versatile, you can do anything on them with almost infinite storage. It’s a portable computer, you can type documents surf the web, take pictures, view movies and also play and stream movies wherever you want whenever you want and the batteries are stronger than ever. iPod had about 16-32 GB of data space. Which would equate to a couple hundred almost a thousand songs. Phones now a days have more storage and also the ability to stream infinite amount of songs. Another piece of technology that’s becoming out of date are DVD/Blue ray players. Now with Netflix and Hulu and other streaming sources such as amazon fire stick and Roku. Having a DVD players is becoming obsolete because you don’t have to spend $20 on one cd anymore now for approximately $9 you can stream unlimited movies from new to old and with box office movies becoming available thru streaming quicker than ever its making it very difficult for DVD players to stay relevant especially with today's generation wanting variety and portability DVD players aren't portable as phones and tablets or laptops.

For a longtime I felt that iPod touches were useless. People would spend all this money on a piece of technology that does the same thing as a phone now a days. It does have a perks to having one if you download a bunch of music and apps and it takes up space on your current cellular device. Now that cell phone manufacturers are making larger hardware storage for the phones that can hold up to 64 GB. I remember when I was one of those teenagers who had a iPhone and an iPod touch. I finally realized how useless it was because the apps that I had on my iPod were the texting apps and games and music. Half the time the apps didn't work unless I was on wifi. I find that aggravating so I convinced my parents when I was due for my next upgrade to just get me an iPhone with more storage space instead of the 16GB that I had at the time. They upgraded me to 32GB and stopped using my ipod cause there was no reason to, because I could do everything on my phone without having to worry about having data connection. It's 2017 now and I haven't heard about Apple making another iPod so, maybe they realized it was useless also.

  23. Unknown says:

It has been so much technology created over the years and with all the technology created each have served its purpose in some way. Many technologies have become unnecessary. Television is slowly but surely becoming unnecessary; I know for myself I rarely watch TV now. Since I’ve been in college I don’t watch TV at all, The Fire Stick has become my other form of TV and it’s something a lot of people use now a day. The Fire Stick has many episodes and movies from back in the day up until now. The Fire Stick also comes with Netflix, Hulu, and any other app or network you can name; it’s something that can be in competition with TV companies and possibly take over. Another technology that is pointless and unnecessary is the apple watch. I don’t understand the purpose of it at all. The apple watch is just like another mini cell phone. Everything you can do on your phone you can do on the watch and only IPhone users can you use the watch. Having both an IPhone and apple watch is pointless, because they both do the same thing; their just in different sizes. I feel like this was created because Apple knew people would buy it just because it was something new and something people would buy at the time. That’s how technology is created and then becomes unnecessary; people use it for a certain time and when something new comes out they buy it and forget about and then it’s on to the next one. This is a constant cycle.

Self-driving cars are unnecessary technology used in today’s society. It is pointless and dangerous, if you can drive there is no point of having a self-driving car. It is dangerous because the car might glitch and not pick up something around it and the car can cause an accident. It sounds like a good idea but a self-driving car is a waste of technological use. Driving isn’t a difficult enough task to need technology to do it for you, so it just shows laziness in people who would do it. If you were tired you should just pull over and rest, it wouldn’t be wise to let a car drive itself while you were asleep. Another technology I feel that is unnecessary are automatic trash cans. All you need is a trash can with a lid to keep the smell in and hand sanitizer near by. The automatic opening trash can is another sign of how lazy we are in today’s time when all we have to do is lift a lid. The only place that a automatic trash can seems necessary is in a restaurant or store but even then it is barely necessary. Most technology is useful but sometime people make something unnecessary because they are trying to hard to make the “next best thing” or trying to shock the world. These people don’t always make the best thing but it is good to know that innovation still lives and that we will continue to have new technologies as long as we live.

  25. I feel that technology can be very useful but here lately I’ve noticed an abundance of unnecessary technology. A lot of the latest technology is becoming more and more useless as time grows old. The Applewatch has to go on the top of the list. My mother bought it and once I seen what all it was about and what it could do it made me mad that she wasted her money on it and would have been better off buying a Fitbit. The Applewatch is 100% useless, everything done on it can be done on your phone and it doesn’t have any special qualities other than for some accessory. Somethings that would improve this product is if it could be used without your phone being nearby. They could even add the internet and make the screen a tad bigger or add a stylus for easier use. Another useful technology would have to be the television. The T.V was a wonderful invention and has come a long way. Back in the day the television was where everything was watched unless you went to a movie theater. Today we have access to free movies, and can even watch your favorite T.V shows online. The television could be improved if it didn’t require cable and could have a list of different movies and television shows just like online. I feel like a lot of useless technology created today is just a money racket and there’s no major need for any of it. So much money can be saved by not purchasing these items and I feel that they will eventually become an obsolete product once everyone realizes this.

I would agree with majority of the things that people posted about previously. Many of the post were about how televisions have become obsolete in today’s society. Manufactures have created so many different versions of smart phones and they have truly become a big thing in our generation. To the point where televisions are not a big deal to our daily lives like they were back in the day for some of our parents. Many people today do not even have TV’s in their homes. They revert to other pieces of technology to be able to do things that are usually done while using a TV. Such as watching movies, and your favorite TV shows can all be done at the convenience of your smart phone. Being many families are not traditional like they used to be, many families are always on the go and are not in need of TV’s. Although TV’s do not play an important role in society anymore, manufactures are still coming out with TV’s that are up to date. I feel as though, they are trying to compete with smart phone companies so that they are able to still make a profit. There are so many TV’s that are coming out all the time, and most of them are purposeless due to the use of smart phones.

I believe that all the smart watches are dumb, just like you stated they cannot be used without the phone so what’s the point in it. I understand it may be easier to answer or call out from but it has no purpose. In that case, you might as well just by another expensive watch in the place of it and place it on your wrist and just keep your phone with you. If any changes were made to these products I would say to make it so that you don’t have to be around the phone for it to work, but have a big security system on it like a phone.
I’m not knocking Apple for anything but they make the same phone repeatedly, and it’s becoming pointless. They send all the updates out to the phones so every phone updates with each other and when they release it’s only a minor change to the next phone from the one before. Also, they cheat their customers out of storage, when you get the phone Apple has a bunch of apps already on your phone so by the time you put everything you want on your phone your storage is almost full. So, if I were Apple I would improve my storage but they make their customers either upgrade or buy storage from them which either way in their eyes is good because they know their product is good and they are still making money either way. Also, the cracking of the glass screens is something that keeps them making money because they have screens that are easily breakable and nobody wants a cracked up IPhone.

  28. I think an unnecessary technology would be a “smart tv” and like you mentioned the “smart watch”. The world is basically being controlled by internet and apps. We already have our computers, laptops and phones with apps. That have access to the internet, so what do need a tv with it. Then if you want to watch anything now you can just watch it from your computer or phone. There’s really no need for a TV service provider at this point either. Every time a new movie comes out, it’s on the internet in a matter of days or even hours after it is released. So then you can just watch it on anything that has access to the internet. Smart watches are really useless because in order for it to function you have to have your phone closed to you. Only useful with your phone in your pocket is when you’ll be able to use it. So it’s pointless you might as well take out your phone if you’re that close to it. Then you have to use a certain phone with a certain smartwatch. With the ridiculous prices they go for, it should be able to work on anything. If a person is dumb enough to buy it. Once they start talking to their wrist like it’s a cellular device they are going to look even crazier. So it’s pointless to buy then it’s going to make you look dumb also. So it’s all-around pointless. I just think a lot of the technology used in today’s society has no real purpose.

I agree that whenever a new product drops all the others aren’t “good enough” or isn’t as good as the new one so the old products go out of style and fewer and fewer people have them. I felt the same way about the apple watch but now I have one. I still barely use it since I have to have my phone on me for my smart watch to work. I’d rather use my phone’s screen than the watch’s the only time I really use it is if my phone is too far and I realize I have the watch on. Some technologies I think that are unnecessary are smart watches, smart glasses and hoverboards. I think these pieces of technology are unnesscary because they all are ultimately useless without something else going along with it or having a lot of bugs. Smart watches as you stated in the document are only able to work if the smart watch is near the phone it is connected too. Smart glasses are really a waste of money. Why would I want to be able to see the things on my phone through my glasses? What would be the point of having a phone? Hoverboards are also a unneccesary invention there isn’t really a reason for them. They aren’t really built for long distance riding and they also aren’t safe because I have heard of customers hoverboards exploding and catching on fire. That’s what I think about those technologies they aren’t really useful they just seem more fututristic which is why they cost so much and one of the only reasons people are purchasing them.

The technologies that I think are unnecessary definitely be televisions and also the apple watch that you mentioned before. The purpose of the TVs has definitely been taken for granted due to the creation of video consoles, cellphones, and even laptops/computers. TVs are unnecessary because other technological advances have been created to perform the purpose of your “everyday” television. For example, you can watch news, movies, and also shows on your iphone, ipad, tablet, and laptops.I honestly don't believe that there are any other ways that a TV could be improved simple because we already have smart TVs invented and they serve the same purpose as the old fashioned televisions. Maybe the TV could offer other viewing options that the common technology can? Maybe it could talk? Either way, if there are other things made to serve the same person then why should it exist? The apple watch is also very needless in today's society. As you stated before you can pick up a phone call or respond to a text message with the convenience of the watch. The use of the apple watch is very irrelevant if you have the phone around because you could use the phone to fulfill its purpose which is the same as the watch if not more. However if the iphone wasn't needed while having the apple watch then maybe its purpose would be somewhat more essential. The apple watch could be improved by not requiring the iphone device to be in the same or close area as you are in when wearing the watch.

Technology that is unnecessary in today’s society are house phones and televisions. House phones are unnecessary because most people today have cell phones which they keep with them constantly and use throughout the day, even while they are at home. People with cell phones typically do not need to use their house phones to receive or make calls unless they live in a location that does not receive good phone service. Otherwise it is unnecessary for people to have both a house phone and cell phone because they are paying for services for both phones. People may still use house phones if they are older and not up to date on technology but other than that most people do not need or use house phones. Cell phones can do many things that house phones cannot, they can be used for social networking, sending and receiving emails, texting, and other forms of contact as long as there is wi-fi access or phone service. The are also more mobile because cell phones can be used to make a quick call and still be able to leave the house if needed, where as if someone was making a call on a house phone they would have to hang up and then call the person back on their cell phone if they planned on leaving. Another thing that is outdated is television. Television is good for whenever people want to watch live streaming tv shows, the news, or award shows such as the Grammy’s. However tvs are not necessary for daily use. Television is a form of entertainment but people often do not use it unless they want to watch popular tv shows on a weekly basis or get an update on wordly events on the news. There are many tv ways to watch tv shows and movies online, such as through Netflix, Hulu, or for sporting events ESPN. Cell phones can also be used as a source for watching tv and movies through the Netflix and other services. A lot of technology is becoming outdated because of the abilities of smart phones and the apps created for them.
