Now John Henry was a
mighty man, yes sir. He was born a slave in the 1840's but was freed after the
war. He went to work as a steel-driver for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad,
don't ya know. And John Henry was the strongest, the most powerful man working
the rails. John Henry, he would spend
his days drilling holes by hitting thick steel spikes into rocks with his
faithful shaker crouching close to the hole, turning the drill after each
mighty blow. There was no one who could match him, though many tried.
Well, the new railroad
was moving along right quick, thanks in no little part to the mighty John
Henry. But looming right smack in its path was a mighty enemy - the Big Bend
Mountain. Now the big bosses at the C&O Railroad decided that they couldn't
go around the mile and a quarter thick mountain. No sir, the men of the C&O
were going to go through it - drilling right into the heart of the mountain.
A thousand men would
lose their lives before the great enemy was conquered. Then one day a salesman
came along to the camp. He had a steam-powered drill and claimed it could
out-drill any man. Well, they set up a contest then and there between John
Henry and that there drill. The foreman ran that newfangled steam-drill. John
Henry, he just pulled out two 20-pound hammers, one in each hand. They drilled
and drilled, dust rising everywhere. The men were howling and cheering. At the
end of 35 minutes, John Henry had drilled two seven foot holes - a total of
fourteen feet, while the steam drill had only drilled one nine-foot hole. John
Henry held up his hammers in triumph! The men shouted and cheered. The noise
was so loud, it took a moment for the men to realize that John Henry was
tottering. Exhausted, the mighty man crashed to the ground, the hammer's
rolling from his grasp. The crowd went silent as the foreman rushed to his
side. But it was too late. A blood vessel had burst in his brain. The greatest
driller in the C&O Railroad was dead.
This story was one that was told around Black History Month
and was one of hard work, will & determination, and most importantly human
sacrifice. All of the afore-mentioned characteristics are ones that our
ancestors fought and died for many years ago in order for us to have the freedoms
we often take for granted today. In
today’s technologically savvy society, big corporations are constantly
improving on new products and are even creating things that make some natural
human functions obsolete. Things like Global
Positioning Systems (GPS), Roombas (robot vacuums), and Siri/Alexa interfaces
(personal assistants) are substitutions for human functions that are no longer
taught (reading maps, properly cleaning rooms/homes, and actually doing
research on information you want to know).
The only fear that I have sometimes with these new technologies is will
they soon replace humans all together?
Knowing that even more technologies are being created every
day, do you feel that society/tech companies are going too far with their
inventions of machines that “make our lives easier”? Are there any jobs that
you feel should never be
replaced with robots/machines? If so,
what are those jobs? Why shouldn’t those
jobs be replaced? Do you feel that there
are some jobs that should be replaced by robots/machines? If so, what are those jobs? Why should those jobs be replaced?

I feel that society is going a bit crazy with new innovations that they are creating. But with a developing world such as our the technology should become more advanced as well, because tech companies are making machines that take over everything there are jobs that don't particularly need it. Jobs such as fast food the processing of the foods and the different machines they go through are too much because it is basically making the food not appealing to the customers who are buying and it's not healthy. Some jobs are meant to have machinery and robots such as the production of cars and different types of metals because these jobs are more tedious to the body and can be very harmful.
As of 2017, technology has evolved in tremendous ways. If I am lost or simply hungry and looking for a restaurant, I can ask my phone to find it. We literally depend on technology for everything. A phone went from to call and receiving calls. To now having the internet, gps, email, music, etc. Tvs are now adapting from the simple channels, to including the internet and youtube. We as a people have become lazy and dependent on technology. We use it as a crutch to get by in life. 20 years ago, no one would have ever predicted all the advances we have. Over the years it has become too much, and it is only getting worse. There shouldn’t be robot assistants when we have people to serve the same purposes. At the rate technology is advancing, we as a people will simply become couch potatoes because we don’t have to work because a robot will do it for us. There will simply be no need for us anymore.
It is a blessing that the medical field is evolving, but we as humans do not need to replace us with robots. It would be unnatural for a robot to perform surgery on a person when there is people who actually put time into school to help the world, then to be replaced by a robot. Robots shouldn’t replace the job of anyone. Everyone has to make a living, and with robots doing everything, they would have no form of income. To some circumstances driving could be replaced by robots. For instance my godmother has epilepsy, when she has her episodes, she cannot drive for a period of time and she has to depend on friends to get her around. Just as planes have auto fly, cars need that.
Yes, I do feel that technology companies are going too far with their inventions. As technology becomes more advanced, more jobs will be done by machines or computers. Humans have abilities that computers do not have and vice versa. Lawyers, doctors, nurses, teachers etc. should never be replaced by robots. A robot cannot teach children, adults, or just people in general how to learn or do something. People actually need one on one human interaction when learning. Robots cannot answer the questions that some kids or people may have when they do not understand a concept. Also, doctors and nurses because a robot can mistakes when diagnosing a patient. Robots consist of computer programs so when something malfunctions then it can misinterpret information or possibly shut down. So no machine can replace those kind of people that we need in everyday life. However, some jobs can be replaced by robots. Assistants can be replaced by robots because computer software is becoming so advanced that there is becoming a decrease in the need for assistants. Robots would be able to put together daily reports, charts, data, and so forth. Other jobs include GPS, grocery store clerks or cashiers. In most grocery stores, they have self-checkout lines where you literally check yourself out without human interaction. GPS can be replace maps because I think it is easier to use GPS to get where you need to go. If you get lost, it will put you on a different route to your destination. Whereas maps, if you are lost, it takes time to read the map and figure out where you need to go. People do rely on technology more than they should, but it’s the way society is.
I don’t think they are going too far with these technologies at all. Its 2017, why would people keep wanting to do everything themselves? I feel like everything as far as technology is getting better as the years go on. I understand John Henry was a hardworking man but that was so long ago, Im pretty sure everybody was working hard. I see why people might think these inventions are going too far because people are just getting lazier by the day. Technology really does make your life easier as people say. A GPS for an example, this device tells you where to go, and if you miss a turn or anything it will redirect you to the correct route. This is so much easier than pulling over to read a map. I don’t even think teachers teach students how to use a map properly. I think they should come up with a camera inside of a refrigerator. So like you won’t have to keep opening and closing the refrigerator you can just see what’s inside from the screen on the door. See me I hate the smell of food. So, I would definitely get this in the future so I will not keep having to smell the smell of left overs. You also will not have to worry about the light inside going dead or anything. This would be a great replacement from regular refrigerators. Its 2017 the more technology there is the better our lives will be in my opinion.
In my opinion, I feel as the inventions made thus far are okay. Companies are not going too far with the inventions of machines that “make life easier”. These inventions so far simply make things less time consuming. They handle minor things, such as vacuuming, googling, or finding directions. It would be bad if inventions were made to take people’s jobs, such as in the healthcare field. This would be going too far. When caring for the human body, it is important that humans handle this. These inventions tend to have many malfunctions. It would be horrible if an invention/robot was performing a surgery, and malfunctioned. Also with working in the healthcare, it requires hospitality skills. Talking to a robot will not satisfy patients. The robot will not be able to be sympathetic and empathic with a patient, like a human would. Healthcare jobs should never be replaced by robots/machines. Another job could be babysitting. A robot/machine will not be able to handle, nor discipline a child, the way a human can. Children require a lot of attention. The robots/machines could never be prepared for what may happen while babysitting a child. A lot of jobs should never be replaced by robots/machines, because a lot of jobs require hospitality, and dependability. Some things you just cannot program a machine/robot to do. With the continuation of inventions of robots/machines, I feel as if they should stick to making them with a purpose to relieve us solely of housework or minor tasks. Human based jobs should remain just as they are.
I think that fast food, anything in the medical field, or with personal information should not be replaced with robots or machines. For simple fact that anything could malfunction in the process. The robot would not know if the food is spoiled or undercooked and that could be a hasertist to the consumer. Just in case something in the order went wrong, the robot could not provide quality customer service. Plus water and elections do not mix, there could be a broken toilet and the robots can't fix it because of the water. I think pop up shops could be ran by robots because they don't sell any items and the items are already prepared the only thing the robots have to do is receive the payment and give the customers the item. But the technology in the world is great right now, if anything NASA should send more robots outer space so we can try to create life on other planets. Robots that can make it to pluto and back with way we could put life on it. They can improve the machines they already have so they could last longer in the solar system. If we add more technology in the world it will end up taking over our life, we just need to improve the stuff now untill it become one hundred percent efficient than worry about new robots or machines . That will keep down all the glitchy ways of the new technology if the old technology is already fixed.
I really don’t how about the way technology is being created these days. I think it’s hard for our generation to relate or understand what past generations went through or made it through with. I feel that these days, a lot of the technological things that are made are made for money. Half the things created these days are so pointless and tend to handicap people in my opinion. Siri is something I don’t personally use because she decided to get me caught up during a test one year in high school lol, but on a serious note I think Siri makes people lazy. Instead of going to investigate what the answer could be yourself or going to your contacts to find and call or text that person, we take a pointless shortcut. One thing that I think robots shouldn’t do that I feel one come around one day is cook, I feel like their accuracy would be off. There is just something’s that human should do and only humans. Do you really think that a robot would be sanitary? But then again on the other hand, there are some jobs that might be able to be do quicker if a machine or a robot did it. Sometimes we deserve a break, but then again if there were robots to do most jobs, then most people would be out of jobs and that would affect their whole life outside of work. I think it’s a situation that can be beneficial to a certain extent but then again it could mess some thing’s up.
You cannot stop technology. No matter how hard you try. Everyone I the world wants their jobs to be easy and if you are telling them that a machine could be made to do make it easier for them. Who would not love that. There are good things and bad things about this. Good things are that the job that you are doing is now made easy by the machine that now does it for you. The bad thing is now that the machine can do your job for you. That there is no need for you to have the job anymore. Although I do strongly believe that there are some jobs that machines should never have 100% control over. The first example is surgery. Surgery should never be replaced by robots because I believe that there is a higher risk of something going wrong. Next thing that should never be replaced by robots is politics. This would be bad because I feel that the political parties would try to hack into the robots for personal gain. Another thing that robots shouldn’t have 100% control over is police. This is because there could be a technological error that could cause them to harm people for no reason. There are more that I have yet to name but these are the main ones that I feel would cause the most problems within the world. There are some jobs that machines should control for the sole reason of convenience. An example in the assembly of cars. This is the example I chose because they help to manufacturer a lot of cars in a short time that would take people way longer to make. This is how I feel about this topic .
I do believe that because companies are trying to make life easier that they are also encouraging laziness. Also I believe they are making technology smarter than humans which will make everyone alright with knowing less if their phones or devices know it. There are some jobs that I feel shouldn’t be replaced with machines. I feel like fast food jobs shouldn’t be replaced with machines. When I say fast food jobs I am talking about the people who take the orders at the window or in the dining room. Also I think that factory jobs shouldn’t be replaced because, it is a lot of jobs that can be made in factories and that can give a lot of people jobs even if it is just sorting boxes or moving things. These jobs shouldn’t be replaced because if they are replaced they will be taking a lot of jobs from people. I don’t think jobs should replace people with machines I feel like they should open their business with the machines already so it won’t be taking away jobs instead of just not creating them. I feel as though only a couple of jobs should ever be replaced with humans. The only jobs I feel should be replaced with machines should be the dangerous jobs that can put humans in serious danger. The only way that I can justify replacing humans with machines is if it puts its employees in harms way they should be able to operate the machine not be it.
Knowing that even more technologies are being created every day, do you feel that society/tech companies are going too far with their inventions of machines that “make our lives easier”?That is a yes and no question, because there are somethings that should not have technology for. But yes, for some jobs need technology to make some jobs safer for human lives. But I do believe that there should be a limit to what of technology is made. Are there any jobs that you feel should never be replaced with robots/machines? Yes, there are jobs that don’t require robots or machines. If so, what are those jobs? Why shouldn’t those jobs be replaced? One of those jobs should be like a judge in court or soldiers. Basically, any jobs that deal with interactions with other humans. Do you feel that there are some jobs that should be replaced by robots/machines? Yes, there should and one of them is when people must go into some volcanoes or into deep water. Basically, any jobs that put humans into danger. but then again there are some jobs that still require humans to be involved but at smallest amount though. Those jobs should be replaced because in the end it could save human lives. Then those lives that are saved can work towards improving the robots/machines. That even would allow us to further our future in technology and make the world a better place. If so, what are those jobs? Why should those jobs be replaced?
This is a real possibility that one day humans will be replaced. For many labour workers who are already faced with a competitive world this possibility is frightening. Advancement in technology helps in making our lives easier but it does eliminate jobs. I believe that if a job has a skill and psychological component to its function then it should not be eliminated. However skill set jobs are necessary for elimination for society to advance. Psychological component jobs are jobs such as teachers, managers, farmers ect who must make decisions not simply based on output and input but strategic reasoning computers cannot effectively do. For example a computer tasked to save a life may decide to save a life based on life expectancy and time but psychologically not configure that a child is involved or the amount of lives that would be saved like a human would. Skill set jobs are output and input jobs like factor liners or feild hands. These jobs naturally are replaced as technology improves but the supervisor should always remain human.
While technology is fascinating and very convenient for people, it isn’t always the most reliable. Technology can crash at any given moment and can also be very problematic. While technology does make life easier, there are only so many things you can depend on technology for since it is a risk of a breakdown in the machine. While machines make it easier to produce for a company it is a big risk because if that machine breaks down it is going to cost a lot to fix. I think that every company should have an equal mix of machines and humans working. Some companies i feel that should never be replaced with machines are banks, retailers, law firms, or places like that where you would want feedback from a person and not a robot. Companies that should have mostly machines would be a manufacturing company who needs to produce large amounts of something at a time because of demand such as a car manufacturing company or a toothpaste manufacturing company. Manufacturing companies need machines to help them produce enormous amounts to meet the demand of the consumers and also, for car companies especially, they need machines to lift and move parts of a car that might be too heavy for a human to move. Technology has ups and downs and there are people working every day to make technology better. Whether we like it or not we live in the age of technology and we aren’t going to get rid of it. New ideas for technology are being thought of daily and the only thing technology will do is move forward, becoming faster, better, and more used.
I feel that society/tech companies are going too far with their inventions or machines. It started out as people just being too lazy, to do their own work, but it is much more than that. Slavery was put into place to uphold a certain ‘power.’ Since slavery was abolished the government finds more ways to obtain power over the people. It is also the money, that is the two things that keeps America running, power and money. If the machines can get the job done faster, that is all that matters. It is not about the quality anymore, just the quantity. One job that I can think of, is being a parent. Soon, someone will invent a nanny, a robot who can look after the children. If parents were replaced with robots, the child will miss the bond and connection between the child and the parents. He or she would also miss out on the emotions each child should go through in life. Everything would be routine, no child would be different, they would lose personality, and character. Robots should only do the jobs that are life-threatening to us humans, like going into space, or test dummies for time travel, compared to everyday routine jobs, that we can do, I feel robots should not be invented to vacuum a house. The technology we use now, such as: computers and cell phones, are unnecessary, but we cling to them like our lives depend on it. So yes I feel like the invention of machines are getting out of control, but until we fixed the main problem, who am I to complain?
Technology is always going to have major advancements, because somebody is always creating something new. Some products that they create to “make our lives easier” are doing more harm than good. These products may only make the job good for a moment. For example, a handcrafted shoe will always last longer than a shoe made from a machine/ robot. These robots take the specialty out of each shoe being that the robot creates them all the same. The only thing that a handcrafted shoe maker would need would be a sewing machine made specifically for making shoes. Many jobs will be lost because technology is taking the place of the humans, just like in the story John Henry had to prove that he was faster than the technology that was getting sold to the railroad. Another example of the bad affects is more technology only makes each generation less and less physically active, if somebody knows they have all the technology to do they household chorus they will never know how to do them or will be too lazy to do it if the technology stops running. I feel like jobs at big plants that employee many people should not be replaced with robots because that causes many people to lose jobs and not be able to afford the cost of living. Any job should not be taken by the robot because they always breakdown and human is easier and cheaper to replace than a robot. Robots are eventually going to take over but somebody needs to set certain limitations to the advancements of these products.
I don’t think companies are going too far with technologies in 2017. At the same time this has its pros and cons that affects our generation in many ways. Humans become lazy and expect machines to do everything for them but it is made to make our lives easier. People have a choose to use the technology or do it themselves. A machine that is a great idea is a washing machine and drier, this comes in handle for everyone when it comes to washing clothes. In the 1700s there was no such thing called a washing machine people had to hand wash clothes in side big pans with soap also drier their clothes by hanging them outside on a clothes line or around in the house to dry. But today some people still do the same to save money on bills. Technology is something that is going to be made everyday. There are a couple jobs robots/machines shouldn’t replace. Like replacing people for robots in hospitals and daycares. That would not be successful when it comes to comforting the patients and children or needing medical help immediately. Machines and Robots are helpful until a certain extent. At some point of time you will have to do for yourself unless you a handicap and can not do for yourself. Maybe 30 or 40 years from now there will be flying cars in a space like environment. Doctors and Nurses should never be replaced, even though there are machines that keep humans alive or save them from death.
I do feel like society is going to go farther with inventions to make life’s easier. Each and every day new technology is being discovered, eventually everything in the world will be ran by a robot. It’s sad but it’s true. Hopefully the machines will need humans to help run them and that will create more jobs for people. The pro’s about having robots to run everything is it will make life easier but I feel like it will also take jobs from people. Companies will save money by not having people work, they will just rely on robots to do everything. Some robots that need remain manual hard labor work is counting grass, building houses, and construction. Those jobs provide a lot of opportunities for people to earn money and provide for their families. I don’t think any jobs should be replaced by robots because then people will not have jobs. The only jobs that need to stick to using robots to do things is car manufactures and electronic making companies like cellphone companies and computer companies. I believe that if we relied on robots to make everything a lot of products we have a bunch of defaults and recalls. Some jobs require having a person do It instead of a robot. I also feel like America obesity rate would sky rocket if we had robots doing everything because then everyone would sit on their tales, eat and not do anything but gain weight. Those are my opinions on how I feel about robots taking over everything
Today in 2017 technology is very impressive and easy to use. Since technology came into the world it has improved a lot. I think that Eventually computers and machines will replace most of the human jobs there are today. Technology makes humans life easier and it can save life’s. Without technology, most tasks would take longer and more effort to complete it. For example, cell phones allow you take my payments without having to go the bank. Robots could take the place of factory workers and the work will be done perfect and faster. Also with robots, the company wouldn’t have to pay them as they would pay human workers. I don’t think robots should replace major jobs such as teachers, doctors, lawyers, or any hospital job. In the school system I’ve seen a major change with the interaction with learning and technology. During my early years of school, most work was assigned with pencil and paper. Now in college almost everything is a document file or some type of electronic version. Computers have taken the place of notebooks and textbooks in the classroom. With using the computer for notes and other assignments, it makes the work easier to be complete. Also with using computer it keeps the work neat and doesn’t crumble up like paper does. Cashiers job has been limited because of self-checkout machines in stores such as Walmart and food lion. With using self-checkout machines you have to worry about customer’s shop lifting because a robot cannot arrest somebody for shoplifting. In overall honesty I think people rely on Technology too much, I don’t see a problem with it because it’s not going away anytime soon.
I feel that the technology that is being created or have been created as of today, is slowly trying to replace humans. For instance, the invention of self-driving cars. There are various car companies that are selling self-driving vehicles that operate on their own. On TV, a commercial advertised a car that turns itself off when it senses that the car is about to collide with another object. Therefore, instead of the driver utilizing what they’ve learned through driver’s education, the car is controlling them instead of them controlling the car. I personally think that no job should be replaced with machines or robots. I mean, it may be good to have one to help a process go faster, but what if it malfunctions? Us as human beings must work to survive and to provide for ourselves and/or loved ones. Meaning we must work to get paid, so to be replaced by machines or robots would mean we would get paid little to none because the job is already getting done. Technologies, such as a GPS, are acceptable because I would not consider that as a replacement to human beings. I would more so consider that as a replacement to those who cannot read an actual map. But, the newer technologies, such as the self-driving cars once again for instance, could be human replacement. Another example would be the vehicles that displays what is behind it as the driver backs up. The driver no longer have to turn his or her body placing one arm on the passenger seat to back up. But instead, he or she relies on the display cam that is built in the rear end of the vehicle.
I think society is going a bit far with all this new technology. I feel everything shouldn’t be done by robots. So many jobs are being lost because humans are no longer needed, the only jobs that are really out there now are related to innovating new ideas for technology . I mean I understand using machines for mass production and in the medical field, but you still need people to operate those machines. But now a days people have designed machines to fix machines. We have so much technology it is to the point we are no longer independent. Back in the day people knew how to reads maps, we had real conversations with one another, and kids would go outside and play. Now we rely on GPS, we rather text or facetime also we can not hold real conversations because we all distracted by social media, and kids don’t even know how to stay outside and play they rather stay inside and play video games. We have become an unhealthy society. We don’t even have to exercise to stay healthy we have machines that can work us out. Don’t get me wrong I love technology but at times I think being so dependent is handicapping me for the real world. When my devices die or I misplace them I feel so lost! My generation is addicted to the easy life, and that is dangerous. If we continue to keep advancing technology to preform simple tasks and continue to create artificial intelligence robots will end up running the world and humans will become obsolete and it will be our fault.
I feel like there are a lot of technologies that are being created everyday such as the latest phones, the newest computers, and the nicest cars on the lot. Technology has become a very useful way of making life easier for many people. Although technologies can tend to be bad for society, they can also be good for society as well. They create many ways to do and see the world differently, creates a other ways to do things and it is a trend for many people today. Although it is good for people, many companies do tend to go a little too far on some of the inventions created to make our lives easier. Iphones are getting way too big and looking more like tablets everyday. Yes, i love iphones, but they are too expensive to do exactly the same thing. They try to make phones bigger so people will pay more for a bigger phone, but when there were bigger phones everyone was trying to create a way to make them portable. There are also jobs that are using technology to replace workers and staff. They are starting to make ways to where can order food at restaurants without staff having to take orders. I think that these workers should be replaced by technology. This is because jobs like these are just sometimes busy and crowded and if the people could take their own orders it would save the staff into having to do less work during their busy days.
Knowing that even more technologies are being created every day, do you feel that society/tech companies are going too far with their inventions of machines that “make our lives easier”? I actually do think companies are going to far with technology, I know there is snap glasses which has a camera in it and can snap with your glasses instead of having to use your phone to snap chat, they also have robots making cars. I think that it is a good idea for robots but sometimes way to much. There are many jobs that shouldn't have robots working for employees, such as doctors, nurses, physicians, orthodontist, mail men and women, nail technicians, clerks, professional exotic dancers. realtor, representative, teachers/professors, etc. I honestly don’t think there should be robots, just being where would we get our money if robots are taking our jobs? Robots will be taking over all our jobs, and wouldn't be able to pay expenses. Like car payment/s, mortgage, phone bills, food, appearance. Like what would we get for money, like would we have to sell ourselves, houses, cars, boats, trailers, etc. ? We wouldn't be alive long enough without food and water we'll end up running out of money. People would start killing each other because their going crazy for not eating a long period of time. And everyone would start dying off, and not reproducing. Humans and animals became extinct. But robots would end up taking or the whole world.
Technology is growing bigger and becoming more unique each day that makes our lives easier. Although a lot of the work that’s being done by technology can be done by hand, certain companies I feel that they are not going too far. There are pros and cons to technology but the only way that it will harm an individual is if they let it do so. While using technology, you shouldn’t have to depend on it or need it to complete a simple task but if you have many other task to do that technology may just make your life a little more simple. I feel that jobs in the medical field should never be replaced, due to the fact that patients should have personal care done by a human, the natural way. Patients also require much attention and should be observed and looked at closely. Jobs that require any computer program or calculations should be done by a robot. These jobs can be really difficult for a human but so easy to a robot and is done way quicker. I also feel that there is need not to worry about certain jobs being replaced by robots because people will explore new jobs to replace the ones taken. Technology will continue to become more advanced and only grow from here. I feel that we should not only appreciate life and doing things on our own but the evolving technology, I find it amazing to see the first technology inventions made to the latest ones and I’m very to see what it holds for the future.
I think that society is going a little far with a lot the new technology. Now that technology keeps evolving, its taking away from jobs. Everything is just moving really quick. 20 years ago technology was a totally different than what it is now. Technology that is supposed to make “life easier” is just making it harder on people instead of making it easier. The complications that come from the technology are what makes it bad. It costs way more to replace a machine than it does to replace a worker. They produce more products but in the long run it eventually backfires. More and more of the jobs today are getting taken by robots. Which isn’t helping society at all. People will never mess up as much as machines. I think jobs like fast food, Factory jobs, store clerks anything with direct connection with humans shouldn’t be replaced with technology. These jobs are also the way a lot of people that are living in poverty make their money. So the machines taking their jobs away are also going to make the economy worse. So technology has a lot of cons. But it also has its pros. It made going places easier by GPS replacing maps. It finds the fastest route to get somewhere and can help you find your way if your lost. Another great tool is a cell phone it makes communication easier. If you want to talk to someone private because your around others you can text. So technology has its pros and cons. But the cons out way the pros.
All the new technology that is being created in today’s society is helping humanity as well as hurting them. Of course, life has become easier but that is not the best thing for people. New technology has made people lazy. The invention of the cell phone was great for the world because it helped people connect with love ones all over the world. Once the touch screen phone came out, people’s focus and attention span disappeared. People would sit and stare at their phones for hours and would barely get up to do anything else. This issue became even worse when the iPhone started including the Siri app on it. With the Siri app supposedly having all the answers, people did not even try to figure out things on their own they just asked Siri. When the robot vacuum came out, I just knew people would become lazier. The only reason that everyone doesn’t have one of these vacuums is the fact that not everyone could afford one. People should just get up and go to work with a broom, they might just get a workout out of it. Now one creation that I don’t think is all that bad is the GPS. Using the GPS, saves the user some time so that they can get to their destinations faster. I still believe people should learn how to read a map just in case of an emergency. I believe that machines should never replace the people at jobs like working in any kind of market or any fast food restaurant. I mainly say this because jobs like these are usually the jobs that teens get to get used to working. Young people also work at these types of jobs to get through college.
Honestly, there is no stopping technology being created; to say companies are going too far is to say that you want people to stop thinking and being creative. Growing up, you always hear “our young are the future of this world” and that’s where it starts. Kids are exposed to technology at a young age and having the largest imagination thus ideas on what they want to be or see throughout their lives are endless. Along with the kids being the future, movies and media also play a role because there have been movies that give a glimpse or ideas to what society could be. For example, iRobot, Wal-E, the latest Independence movie, Ex Machina, Iron Man, the list goes on and with that list comes more ideas for inventors to think of. Because of the ideas people come up with, our society has become lazier and are always looking for the something to make life easier but there reaches a point where it is unnecessary. Becoming so reliant on machines to help us get the job done easier is honestly laziness at its finest moment which is why we as humans need to return to independency and doing things for ourselves. Machines have no emotion or feeling, thus, they should not replace humans work but could replace us in the battlefield to reduce the casualties and lives lost to war and/or national conflict. Yes the human population is above 7 billion and will continue to rise but it is never a good thing to lose a life/loved one to war when it can be prevented.
Society is definitely getting out of hand as far is being a technology savvy nation. We depend on technology to do everything for us. I personally enjoy sitting back and being lazy and allowing machinery to work but I do like to work also. These machines make our lives easier yes but they have their disadvantages also. For example, if a robot was created to babysit your kids, yes that would be great but they can't provide that nuturing and compassionate feeling that a human can. I do believe that there are multiple jobs that should never be replaced by robots, technology period. Jobs like nurses and doctors specifically. A nurse comes with way more responsibility than just helping you to the bathroom or changing your bed pan or whatever else they may be doing. Being a nurse comes with trust, communication, sympathy and other traits and feelings that robots/technology can't offer. I don't think that there are jobs that need to be replaced because everyone serves a purpose and jobs are created for humans to fufill these spots.
I don’t think companies are going too far with new technology and inventions. I believe they are going in the direction of making life easier. So even if many people start to use these innovations all of them won’t be necessary and some will stick to the “old school” way. I believe more tedious tasks should be replaced but the little things not necessarily, because at the end of the day it’s the individual that will determine if they are some type of couch potatoes or not. Even if basic jobs are taken I believe that some jobs should still be able to be made for people to supervise the robot and make sure they are doing their proper tasks. However jobs that I don’t believe would be taken are food places that specialize in having homemade food, and specialty cake/dessert places. This is because people go to those for their own unique take on recipes and style of cooking. Any I believe that many other companies and small businesses will have that same effect of specialization which may cause them to stand out. Thing that could be replaced could include anything car related. Especially because almost everything car related is just about already been replaced by machines. This includes the manufacturing of the car itself, the washing of it, and even the transition from maps to GPS. Besides this I believe things will change as they are needed and what needs to happen will when it the advancing in technology.
In today’s society, there is tons of new technology. The new technology to me has made the world smarter in some ways but lazier at the same time. Not everyone is all in to technology like some people are. More of the younger generation are the ones that’s really in to technology. Some of the older generation is to but they don’t know how to work it as well as the younger generation because they didn’t grow up with it like we did. The older generation that I see likes to play the games more and get on Facebook. When the iPhone came out people went crazy. People wouldn’t leave their couches that’s how much people were focused on their phone. When the smartphone got to wear, you could ask the internet what to look up and give you an answer within seconds that made people even lazier as in thinking wise. One thing I’ve seen recently that was uncalled for was the automatic vacuum. The automatic vacuum goes around your house and vacuums everywhere until it vacuums into the wall and then it turns a different way. Another good invention to make technology better was the x-ray machine. The x ray detects to see if there is any broken bone or fractured bone. Without the x ray machine the doctor wouldn’t know exactly what to say is wrong with you other than what you tell them. Through the years to come you will never know what technology will just pop up these days.
Robots will not replace society it will transform. But, yes, I feel as if society/tech companies are going to far with their inventions to make our lives easier because they are taking away everyday jobs, and things for people to do. With these being created it makes the job rate decrease for humans, and by humans not having jobs they cannot provide for everyday living. There are jobs that should never be replaced with robots/machines such as nurses, politics/law and education. Nurses cannot be replace to a robot due to the fact nursing is hands on and the job requires physical attention. The only job I feel is replacable is a cashier being that you don’t need anybody to physical do something you capable of doing on your own. Education is considered hands on students understand through words, visuals and hands on. Most jobs that aren’t replace are more hands on which helps people understand/ do better. Technology replacing human labor could create competition within different business markets. Living in a time where there is just technology such as robots would leave to lots of frustration within people and lots of problems could occur within the robot. A major pro to robot/machine use would be that it saves time. Last I feel as if we lived In time were we did not use much technology and things were accomplished. We should only use it as a second resource. Robots/Machines are somewhat useful to society but also harmful in many different ways.
I would agree that some of the inventions that society/tech companies are coming up with are taking things a little too far. Although some of these inventions are supposed to “make our lives easier”, they are taking away jobs that should never be replaced. Some things in life are done the way they are done for specific reasons. Some inventions are needed, but most of them are not. When I was a young girl, and even to this day, my mom would always tell me “if something is not broken, then there is no need to try and fix it”. Some of these inventions are trying to fix things that are not already broken. I would agree with some of the things that you stated in your blog. Some of the inventions today, that are already implemented are created by people, some of those people being our ancestors. Who put so much hard work and dedication in to some of the things we use in this world today on a day to day basis. Of course, as a society, we are all for making our lives easier. But in the end most new inventions make some people lives harder than what it needs to be. New inventions, I would say, take away from younger generations education on different things. For example, GPS systems take away from knowing how to use an actual map. Another example would be calculators, they take away from knowing how to do simple math in your head. Inventions are sometimes good ideas, other times they are not.
I feel like society and tech companies are doing the most with these new inventions. The use of something of these technologies doesn’t give people the opportunity to do some stuff the right way or to figure out how to do things on their own. In the 21 centuries, I think everyone rely too much on technology to figure out things they do not know, or to do something. For example, if someone doesn’t know how to get to a certain destination one is going to automatically use their phone, instead of getting a map and looking it up. Some inventions are useful but at the same time its taking away from people having jobs. Manufacturing and companies that create or build cars shouldn’t have machines or robots. This is because sometimes machines have malfunctions and can mess something up or make it worse than it already is. For car dealerships, I think they should only have humans build cars or fix cars because if a machine or robot malfunction it could be dangerous for someone buying the car. Also, they would have to take more time to fix the machine if it messes up and that’ll take time away from building or fixing a car. Another thing is that with these machines, there aren’t people working to do these things and that’s more people without jobs. I can’t really think on some jobs that should rely on robots because robots are more likely to ruin something than to fix it. The only technology that is useful to society is the cell phone, and that’s because it’s easier to get into contact with someone.
Technology is evolving so much, it’s so much new technology. A lot of people depend on technology more these days, we don’t like to do things by hand anymore. I am guilty of this I must admit, but as the years go by technology is just over powering things we did the old fashion way. The newer generation knows how to use technology way more than the old generation, because back then they did everything by hand. I believe later in the future Robots will replace a lot of things. One thing I feel they can’t replace is doctors and nurses. Robots shouldn’t replace them, because we need humans for those jobs. It would take many years for people to build robots, and to make them smart enough to be able to perform surgeries or just perform certain tasks without the robot malfunctioning or killing somebody. A job robots could replace would be somebody that works in a factory or some type of plant. If robots were created in the future, it would decrease the number of jobs for humans, then it would make it harder for humans to live everyday life and provide for themselves and their families as well. If robots took over the world, there would be so many conflicts among many people and it would cause competition within many businesses around the world. Robots can eventually become a gift and a curse. It could make people lives either easier or harder; robots should be considered very carefully and wisely.
